| GREETINGS FROM SPRINGFIELD POLICE CHIEF DOUGLAS S. JOHNSTON |
The Springfield Police Department has moved to their new home. No longer do we reside in the basement of the Town Hall. We are now located at 201 Clinton Street, which is just as you enter into the urbanized area of Springfield, VT from I-91. The Springfield Police Department would like to extend their gratitude to: Bob Forguites, Town Manager; The Springfield Select Board; Bob Flint SRDC along with the many others working behind the scenes to make this happen. But none of this would have to come to realization without the support of you, the Springfield Tax Payers. WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! |

The Springfield Police Department is a 24/7 police operations department. Our dispatch center also covers the Springfield Fire Station communications when the fire department is not manned. Springfield has a population of approximately 9,200 residents so we handle between motor vehicle activity, public services, and criminal investigations, about 8,500 complaints a year. Between adult and juvenile offenders, the department generates approximately 550 court cases per year. The department has the following positions: 1 Chief of Police 1 Lieutenant 3 Sergeants 3 Corporals 2 Investigators and 6 patrol officers who are responsible for the 24 hour policing in our community. We have four marked vehicles and four unmarked vehicles. One of the Investigator’s vehicles is a four wheel drive vehicle, and is often used by patrol during inclement weather. One of the unmarked vehicles is also used for training, court appearances, and is used by other departments within town government. We currently are authorized 16 full time sworn officers and 4 full-time dispatchers. We have a part-time Parking Enforcement Officer; 3 part-time Patrol Officers and 3 part-time Dispatchers. The department has several distinct functions in addition to patrol activity associated with policing. We currently have a Criminal Investigator and a Juvenile Investigator. The Criminal Investigator allows us the ability to follow up on cases that the patrol division may not be able to do. |
