SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
SOCIAL WORKER'S PROGRAM

In the fall of 2006,
Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston
expressed interest in establishing a Police Social Worker’s Program.

Chief Johnston is pleased to announce that the Springfield PD
is currently partnered with
Health Care and Rehabilitation Services of Southeastern Vermont (HCRS)
to provide a Crisis Intervention Specialist to the community.

HCRS agreed to donate staff time for a five-hour per week pilot program.
Since its inception, the idea has developed into a program
that quickly and efficiently provides assistance to people in the community.

Issues that are frequently addressed include:
mental health, drug dependencies, juvenile problems,
family discord and threats of suicide.

In order to work closely with the police,
the Police Social Worker’s office is located within the police department.

Claudia Schlieman,
an experienced crisis worker with HCRS,
who already had an established professional relationship with the
Springfield police, holds this position.

Claudia can be reached at the
Springfield Police Department
(802)885-2113.
